The cornerstone of effective dental implant treatment lies in meticulous planning. During your initial hour-long consultation, we delve into your medical history comprehensively. Following this, a comprehensive treatment plan encompassing both dental and medical aspects will be meticulously prepared.

We will thoroughly discuss your case, exploring all available implant treatment options tailored to your specific needs. For straightforward cases, a detailed Treatment Plan with associated costs can be provided during the initial visit. In more intricate cases requiring the expertise of multiple specialists, a second appointment may be necessary, drawing upon the combined knowledge of our specialist team.

Dental Implant Treatment Duration

Dental implant treatment typically spans several months to reach completion.

The crux of any medical procedure lies in accurately formulating the diagnosis and devising the subsequent treatment plan.

For instance, when a tooth is lost, the duration since its extraction or loss due to an accident determines the extent of supporting bone loss. In such scenarios, a bone graft may be necessary to develop sufficient bone for implant placement.

However, with meticulous planning, it’s feasible to consider implant placement within 3 to 8 weeks post-extraction. Subsequently, it takes approximately six weeks for the implant to integrate firmly into the bone, facilitating the attachment of a crown, bridge, or occasionally, a precision component for denture retention onto the integrated dental implant.

YOUR SMILE TREATMENT JOURNEY

YOUR SMILE TREATMENT JOURNEY

Below is an outline of what you can anticipate during your orthodontic treatment journey at Bristol Dental Specialists.

Initial Consultation:

During your first appointment, we will use our digital scanner to scan the inside of your mouth. This non-invasive equipment produces 3D images of your teeth, soft tissue, nerve pathways, and bone in a single scan. This allows us to evaluate the bone support for a dental implant. In some cases, a bone graft may be required to ensure a suitable foundation for securely placing the implant. Additionally, we have a Cone Beam scanner, which is a type of x-ray machine. Depending on the initial scan results and consultation with your dentist, further investigation using this scanner may be necessary.

Bone Augmentation:

If a bone graft is deemed necessary, we will determine whether it can be performed concurrently with the dental implant placement or if it should be done as a separate procedure. The process of bone augmentation typically takes between five and nine months to prepare the site for receiving a dental implant.

Implant placement

For straightforward cases, we usually recommend proceeding with the second appointment for the placement of the dental implant. Local anaesthesia will be administered to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Healing & integration

The titanium post requires some time to allow the bone and gum to heal around it before it can support a new tooth. This period is crucial as it allows the titanium to fuse with the surrounding bone, a process known as biological integration.

Biological integration typically takes between eight and twelve weeks. Once the implant has successfully integrated with the bone, it establishes a sturdy and stable foundation for the new crown or bridge.

Restoring

After successful integration of your implant with the bone, we proceed to restore the implant. Following scans to assess the implant’s position relative to your other teeth and structures, the final ‘implant teeth’ can be custom-designed, fabricated, and securely attached to the implant either through cementation or screwing. Once fitted, they will closely resemble, feel, and function like a natural tooth.

For routine cases, treatment durations typically range from 6 weeks to 6 months, starting from the implant placement to the crown fitting.

Post-Treatment Care:

Implants represent a significant investment in your health and well-being. With proper aftercare, they can endure a lifetime.

Ensuring the long-term success of your implants entails diligent maintenance. Just like natural teeth, implants necessitate regular check-ups and meticulous oral hygiene. By adhering to these practices, your implants can be preserved for many years to come.
